José Mario Molina Pasquél y Henríquez
He was born in the Mexico city on March 19, 1943.
During the 1960s he studied at the Faculty of Chemistry of the National Autonomous University of Mexico. He did postgraduate studies in Germany, and obtained a doctorate at the University of California, Berkeley, in 1972. Linked to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology since 1989, he acquired US citizenship and was appointed full professor in 1997.

In 1987 the Protocol was signed in Montreal: the CFC manufacturing nations were committed to stopping production and replacing it with other less harmful compounds for the environment. In 1995, the Royal Swedish Academy awarded Mario Molina the Nobel Prize in chemistry for his work in atmospheric chemistry, an award he shared with Frank Sherwood Rowland and the Dutchman Paul Crutzen.
